Bedsider Pilot
Philliber Research Associates (PRA) and the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) worked together to test the utility of Bedsider through a pilot study at three clinics in Florida. The purpose of this investigation was to document use of Bedsider over a year’s time among 740 unmarried women aged 18 to 29 who were shown the site at their local Planned Parenthood clinics and encouraged to use it.

Here are a handful of findings from the 6- and 12-month follow ups:
- At six months, over three-quarters of these women (82%) had talked about or shared Bedsider with someone they know.
- Over three-quarters (78%) reported in the 6-month follow up survey that they had been more careful about using their birth control methods.
- Just over 80% also reported they had tried harder to avoid unprotected sex since they started using Bedsider.
- Twelve months after being introduced to Bedsider, reactions were positive. Almost all of the women who used Bedsider believed it was a useful site (99%) and 97% would recommend it to a friend or family member.
- From baseline to one-year follow up, the average score among Bedsider users on a 15-question survey that measured birth control knowledge increased significantly from 59% to 68% correct.
