Policy Updates
10/15/25:
- AB 260 authorizes a pharmacist to dispense mifepristone and other medication abortion drugs without the written name of the prescriber or patient, or name and address of pharmacy providers (subject to specified requirements). It also prohibits criminal, civil, professional discipline, or licensing action against a clinic for transporting or engaging in other acts related to medication abortion. Additionally, Ab 260 officially repeals the law, that had previously found to be unconstitutional by the courts, requiring parental involvement before a pregnant person under 18 can access an abortion. AB260 is effective as of 9/26/25.
- Under current laws, pharmacists can furnish to patients FDA-approved, self-administered hormonal contraceptives under standing protocols. AB50 allows pharmacists to furnish over-the-counter contraceptives without restrictions, by limiting the application of existing protocol requirements to prescription-only methods. AB260 is effective as of 9/26/25.
